Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why do we need a capital campaign?
A: The cost of building our new church is estimated at over $18 million. We currently have $5.5 million in pledges. The amount of pledged dollars was used as collateral for the low-interest loan we obtained from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in order to proceed with our construction phase.
Q: What is the timeline of the construction?
Estimates to rebuild our church by an arson fire on April 16, 2011, are now approximately $18.5 million dollars. Our Ground Breaking ceremony, held on June 18th, 2016, was a great success and an emotional day for all attendees. Estimated timeline for the completion of the church is at the end of 2017.
Q: What is the timeline of the capital campaign?
A: Our parish has already undergone Organization and Planning for the past month and will begin reaching out to families this Winter during the “silent phase.” The public announcement will be made in March of 2014.
Q: Who can support this campaign?
A: All members of the St. John Vianney community are asked to prayerfully consider a gift to support the Rise Again Capital Campaign. We have also received donations and letters of prayer and support from all over the world.
Q: What kind of gift can I give?
A: There are a variety of options to consider when making a charitable contribution. The Rise Again Capital Campaign accepts cash, checks, electronic transfers, credit card payments and gifts of stock. Life insurance policies and planned gifts may also be accepted under certain circumstances. Please review the Ways to Give Guide or contact Jeannie Jaramillo-Shepard at the Parish Office (626-330-2269) for more information about giving vehicles.
Q: Why is the campaign seeking pledges?
A: We can all be more generous if we are offered the option to give over a period of time. To create the opportunity for donors to give larger gifts, a five-year pledge period is offered. We ask that gifts be paid within five years.
Q: Are gifts to the campaign tax deductible?
A: Gifts to the campaign are tax deductible as allowed by law. The application of such laws varies with individual financial circumstances. Parishioners with specific questions regarding tax deductibility should contact their attorney or tax preparer.
Q: What if I am unable to fulfill my original pledge amount?
A: We understand that unanticipated events or situations can occur at any time. A pledge is merely a good faith intention to the parish and the campaign. If for any reason you are unable to complete the payments on your intended pledge, please contact Gina Zepeda in the Capital Campaign office at 626-330-2269 ext 240.
Q: Will the Together Mission take place in our parish this year?
A: The generous community of St. John Vianney will be asked to assist the Archdiocese with the annual Together In Mission effort. Our campaign is a unique and special time for everyone, and your pledge toward the Rise Again Capital Campaign should be viewed as a sacrificial gift above your regular giving.
Q: If I donate to the campaign, do I still need to continue my weekly offertory contributions?
A: Although this campaign is addressing important long-term needs of the parish, the current needs of the parish will remain. This extraordinary effort is intended to encourage all parishioners to give sacrificially above and beyond their regular contributions with “new money.”
